Device Registration

Register a device with a tenant so it can be used in store.

Before a device can be used in store, it must be registered against a market, store, and default order type. Registration happens automatically the first time the In-Store App signs in on a new device, through the Initial Setup wizard. The same wizard can be re-run at any time — for example when a tablet is moved to a different store, or when the default order type needs to change.

This page covers what registration stores on the device, when to re-run it, and how to update individual settings without going through the full wizard.

What registration stores on the device

The setup wizard saves the following settings locally on the device using the platform's secure shared preferences store:

SettingWhat it controls
MarketThe market context used for all new orders and cart sessions on this device
StoreThe store this device belongs to — used for stock lookups, push notifications, and order routing
Order TypeThe default order type applied when a new cart is created
LanguageThe display language for the app UI
Printer (Windows only)The receipt printer paired with this device
Home LayoutWhich blocks appear on the Home screen
Setup completed flagMarks the device as registered so the wizard does not run again on next launch

Until the setup completed flag is set, the wizard runs on every launch instead of the main app. Once set, the device goes straight to the Home screen after sign-in.

First-time registration

When a user signs in on a device where setup has not been completed, the wizard starts automatically. For a step-by-step walkthrough of the wizard, see Initial Device Setup.

At the end of the wizard, the device is registered and the Home screen opens. On first-time setup (not a re-run), a brief settings showcase highlights the Settings icon so the user knows where to return for configuration.

If the signed-in account has no stores assigned, the wizard shows the message No stores are available for your account. Please contact your administrator or log in with a different account. and a Logout button. The device cannot be registered until a store is assigned to the account in the back office.

Re-running registration (changing store or settings)

Re-run the wizard when:

  • A tablet is moved to a different store
  • The default market or order type needs to change
  • The printer pairing changes (Windows)
  • The Home layout needs a full reset

To re-run the wizard:

  1. Open Settings (tap the gear icon in the sidebar).
  2. Tap the tune icon in the top-right corner of the Settings page.
  3. The Welcome to Omnium wizard opens with the current selections pre-filled.
  4. Work through the steps and tap Get Started on the last step to save.

Completing the wizard as a re-run saves the new settings and immediately closes back to the Settings page — the device stays registered and the Home screen is not cleared.

Editing individual defaults without the wizard

You can update the market, store, or order type one at a time without going through all wizard steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Device section.
  3. Tap Market, Store, or Order Type to open an inline picker and select a new value.
  4. A Default [field] updated confirmation is shown.

Changes made through the individual tiles take effect immediately for new carts and orders. Any cart that is already open on the device continues to use the store and market it was started with.
