Starting a Rental

Pick a rentable product, a date range, and an available unit, then add the rental to the cart.

The Rental tile on the Home screen opens a short wizard for renting a product out to a customer: pick the product, pick the rental period on an availability-aware calendar, pick a free unit, and add it to the cart. The rental is priced automatically from the daily rate and number of days, plus a deposit.

Prerequisites

The Rental tile only appears if Projects is enabled for your tenant. Every rental is tracked afterwards as a Project (see Managing Rental Projects), so the feature is only available where Projects has been provisioned. Ask your administrator to enable it if you don't see the tile.

  • The Rental tile must have been added to the Home screen layout under Settings → Customization → Home Items → Add Item → Custom → Add rental.
  • A store must be selected on the device — the wizard cannot load rental products otherwise.
  • The products you want to rent out must already be configured as rentable (with a daily rate, deposit amount, and one or more rental units) — this is set up ahead of time and isn't something staff configure from the till.

Opening the rental wizard

  1. From Home, tap the Rental tile (calendar icon).
  2. On a tablet or handheld screen, the wizard opens as a full-screen page. On a wider desktop-style screen, it opens as a side panel next to the cart.

Picking a rentable product

The wizard opens on the product step, showing every rentable product configured for the current store.

  1. Use the search field to filter by product name or SKU.
  2. Tap a product row to select it and move to the period step.

If no rentable products are configured for the store, the list shows a message that there are no rental products available — check with an administrator that rental products have been set up for this store.

Choosing a rental period

Once a product is selected, tap the date field to open the calendar and choose a from and to date.

  1. Tap the start date, then tap the end date. The range between them is highlighted.
  2. Days that are fully booked for every unit of this product are greyed out and cannot be tapped — this reflects real-time availability so you can't accidentally pick a period with nothing free.
  3. Days in the past are also greyed out and unselectable.
  4. Tapping a day before the currently chosen start restarts the selection from that day.

Once both dates are picked, the calendar closes and the chosen range is shown on the period screen along with the total number of days.

  1. Adjust the Pick-up time and Return time dropdowns if needed (9:00–17:00, in whole hours). These only set the booking window — the daily rental price is always based on whole calendar days and is not affected by the times chosen.
  2. Tap Find available units.

If availability couldn't be loaded for the selected product, the calendar simply shows no greyed-out days rather than blocking your selection — double-check the dates before continuing.

Picking an available unit

The wizard fetches the units of the chosen product that are free for the whole selected period.

  1. Tap a unit row to select it. If exactly one unit is available, it is selected automatically.
  2. Once a unit is selected, a price summary appears at the bottom of the screen:
RowDescription
Daily rateThe unit's price per rental day
DaysNumber of days in the chosen period
Rental totalDaily rate × number of days
DepositThe refundable deposit for this unit
To pay nowRental total + deposit — what is added to the cart
  1. Tap Add to cart to add the rental line (and its deposit) to the current sale.

If no units are available for the selected dates, go back and try a different period rather than waiting — the wizard tells you outright when nothing is free.

Cancelling out of the wizard

Tap the X in the top-right corner, or use the back arrow to step back one screen at a time.

Once a period and a unit have been chosen, closing the wizard shows a Discard rental? confirmation, since you would lose the selected period and unit. Tap Discard to leave, or Keep editing to stay on the wizard.
