Receipt Printer Setup

Connect a thermal receipt printer via USB, Bluetooth, or network, set the paper width, and verify printing works.

The In-Store App can print receipts and documents to a thermal printer connected by USB, Bluetooth, or network. Printer settings are stored per device, so each till or tablet can use a different printer. This page covers selecting a connection type, pairing or configuring the printer, setting paper width, and running a test print.

The Printer section in Settings is not available on the web version of the app. It is available on Android, iOS, and Windows.

Opening printer settings

  1. Open Settings (tap the gear icon in the sidebar).
  2. Scroll to the Printer section.

The printer configuration tiles appear directly in the section. No separate page opens.

Choosing a connection type

Tap the Connection Type tile. The Select Connection Type dialog opens with four options:

OptionWhen to use
USBPrinter connected directly via USB cable
BluetoothWireless Bluetooth pairing
NetworkPrinter on the same local network, reachable by IP address
NoneNo printer configured (disables print actions)

Tap the option that matches your printer. The dialog closes and the tile updates to show the selected type. The tiles below it change based on the selection.

Changing the connection type clears any previously selected printer name and address. You will need to re-select or re-configure the printer for the new type.

Connecting a USB printer

  1. Plug the printer into the device's USB port.
  2. Set Connection Type to USB.
  3. Tap Discover Printers — subtitle reads Scan for available USB printers.
  4. A loading spinner appears while the app scans. When the scan completes, a list of found printers appears below the tile (up to 10 printers shown).
  5. If no printers are found, a snackbar shows No USB printers found — check the cable and printer power, then tap Discover Printers again.
  6. Tap a printer row to select it. The Discover Printers tile is replaced by the Selected Printer tile showing a green check icon and the printer name.

Connecting a Bluetooth printer

  1. Make sure the printer is powered on and in pairing mode.
  2. Set Connection Type to Bluetooth.
  3. Tap Discover Printers — subtitle reads Scan for available Bluetooth printers.
  4. A list of discoverable Bluetooth devices appears. Each row shows the device name and its MAC address.
  5. If no printers are found, a snackbar shows No Bluetooth printers found — confirm the printer is in pairing mode and within range.
  6. Tap a row to select the printer. The Selected Printer tile updates with the device name.

The device may need to be paired with the printer at the operating system level before the app can discover it. Pair via your device's Bluetooth settings first if the printer does not appear in the scan.

Connecting a network printer

  1. Note the printer's IP address from its configuration page or network administration tool.
  2. Set Connection Type to Network.
  3. Tap the Printer IP Address tile (subtitle reads Tap to enter IP address when nothing is configured yet). The Network Printer Address dialog opens.
  4. Fill in the two fields:
FieldDescription
IP AddressThe printer's IP address on the local network (e.g. 192.168.1.100)
PortThe ESC/POS port, default 9100. Change only if your printer uses a different port.
  1. Tap Save. The tile updates to show the configured address in the format IP:port (e.g. 192.168.1.100:9100).

Setting the paper width

Tap the Paper Width tile. The Select Paper Width dialog opens with two options:

WidthTypical use
58mmNarrow thermal rolls, common on compact printers. Default.
80mmStandard thermal rolls, used on most full-size receipt printers.

Tap the correct width for the paper loaded in the printer. The tile updates to show the selected width.

Using the wrong paper width causes receipts to print misaligned or truncated. Match the paper width in the app to the actual roll size in the printer.

Enabling auto print

Turn on the Auto Print switch to have the app send a receipt automatically after each order is created. The switch subtitle reads Automatically print receipts after order creation.

  • Turning on shows a snackbar Auto print enabled.
  • Turning off shows a snackbar Auto print disabled.

When auto print is off, staff can still print manually from the order or cart. Auto print is disabled by default.

Testing the printer

The Test Print tile is only active when a printer has been selected (connection type is not None and a printer name or network address has been configured). When inactive, the subtitle reads Select a printer to test.

  1. Tap Test Print — subtitle reads Print a test receipt.
  2. A snackbar shows Printing test receipt... while the job is sent.
  3. On success, a snackbar confirms Test print successful! and a sample receipt prints.
  4. On failure, a snackbar shows the error reason. Check that the printer is powered on and connected, then try again.
